With summer just around the corner, you may be dreading the days of getting into a swimsuit or a bikini only to notice that you missed a spot shaving (especially around your bikini line). What if you could ditch the hair for good and not have to worry about ingrown hairs or forgotten hairs every again during the summer months? With laser hair removal, you can do just that. To make sure you get the most out of your treatment, and so that you know what you can expect, there are a few things for you to know.
Shave Before, Don't Wax
If you have been an avid waxer, then ditching your wax membership may be hard to do, but it will have a big payoff. When you wax, you are actually disrupting the hair follicle when it is removed, which will prevent the laser from being able to target it. Make sure that you quit waxing a few weeks before your first laser hair removal session.
One thing you will want to do is shave the bikini area about twelve hours before treatment; this makes it easier for your esthetician to target the hair follicle and give you better results.
It Can Be Painful
If you have waxed your bikini area before, then you know just how painful it can be. Laser hair removal is kind of similar on the pain scale, but it feels more like a rubber band is snapping you every time the laser hits a hair follicle. While you may be tempted to take ibuprofen before your treatment, it can actually thin your blood which may lead to bleeding and bruising during and after your session. In some instances, your esthetician may be able to apply a topical numbing cream to ease the pain if it's unbearable, but you will have to talk to them during your first session.
You Have to Undergo Tons of Sessions
Your hair grows in cycles which means it can be hard for your esthetician to target every hair around your bikini lie in just a few sessions. To help really destroy those follicles, you will need between four and six sessions. Depending on your hair type and how much you have around your bikini line, it may take fewer sessions.
